Christmas this year was amazing. Another year of thankfulness. Another year of rejoicing. Another year of being fully present with my family.
And now, I am refreshed and excited going into the new year. I am not a huge “new year resolution” person because I feel like there is too much emphasis and urgency put on them. People get discouraged and completely quit when their resolutions don’t go as planned. We all know how it goes - the gym is packed from January 1st through January 15th, and then it slowly dies down. The majority of the people who jump in saying they are going to hit the gym every day, miss a day or two, and then completely quit because they “failed”. First of all, none of us are perfect, and we need to realize that when we make huge commitments like this. Second, failure is simply the catalyst of exponential growth… if you allow it to be.
That being said, I do really love setting goals! My goals are long term goals, and I choose smaller goals or changes I can make in my life to help me achieve them.
This next year, to achieve my bigger life goals, I am focusing on whole life wellness, clarity, and intention. I’ve made an intentional effort to eliminate things that no longer serve me or my goals (excess clothes, products, material items, unhealthy foods, and so on), and I will use the time and/or money previously spent to enhance my life and the lives of those around me. These changes are not new year resolutions, they are lifetime resolutions. I am ready to say no to good for great forever, but I am also going to be realistic about it. I’m aiming for 90% success, but I know that 80% is realistic.
When I got sober, it was the clarity behind “I no longer drink” that allowed me peace. Going into 2022, the clarity I have knowing that I need to live my best in order to be my best has given me that same peace. I am prepared to be my best, but I am also prepared to show myself grace and mercy when I mess up, and then dive back in and be even better than I was before the fall.
I am going to live up to my highest potential. I am going to serve God. I am going to serve others, and I am going to see miracles in everything I do and everywhere I look.
What are small changes that you can make this year to help you achieve a higher level of success? To help you achieve a larger life goal?
